Do you take benefit from subdomains for your projects ? How easy are they to manage ?
I think by that way a webmaster could bring different variants of the same project under one umbrella.
Abhi I use a subdomain for my forum located at https://hub.phenomlab.com whilst the main website sits at the root on https://phenomlab.com
I also use another subdomain for CDN which is cookie free.
Good to know. Aren't subdomains more or less like independent domains ? Most browsers highlight only the main TLDs.
Any specific advantage in making use of subdomains ?
We can say it isolates you project a bit from the main domain. I like to use folders as it is less complex in the backend. But I have used subdomains as well.
Abhi Most browsers highlight only the main TLDs.
That is a new practice. It has cast some shadow over those who use a subdomain, no doubt.
admin Most browsers highlight only the main TLDs
I'd be interested in some information to support that statement.
Something like this
admin that's because that domain is using a wildcard certificate.
phenomlab Almost all subdomains appear like the above for me in Firefox. I checked Chrome, there is no highlighting there.
Abhi I checked Chrome, there is no highlighting there.
Neither in Chromium
Ok, but in this case, flarum.cloud is the tld but the subdomain part is highlighted ?
I checked in Firefox and Opera. No, subdomain part is not highlighted. As far as I remember, it was advertised as an anti-phishing effort sometime back.
Yes, I remember too. It prevents scammers from using names like Google.myDomain.com and lure people into believing that the website is legitimate. Works great when they turn off subdomain highlighting.
