Greetings, i am currently running a forum and the domain has .org extension. Now i am planning to go for .com extension. Example of my plan, goodforum.org planning to change it to good-forum.com (as goodforum.com is taken)
As i read .org is used for foundations and not-profit websites i am thinking of this change. What is your suggestion?
There is no rule suggesting that established organisations are the only eligible category for .org domain. A lot of open-source projects run by individuals use .org. The only drawback is that it will look bad if it is pizza.org or hotdogs.org
If .org and your domain name match well, I don't see any problem in keeping .org extension.
As for .com , whatever discussion we make, if you can get one, go ahead. But special characters in it might kill the advantage.
Abhi Thanks for the opinion on this. I am already in the second month with .org and i have decent backlinks and indexing by Google. So if i buy a new domain i need to work on in it again.
Abhi it will look bad if it is pizza.org or hotdogs.org
Nice example. I cannot say it better 🙂
That is ok. If you plan to do it, do it now. Don't wait for too long. 🏆
If you managed to generate backlinks in 2 months, you can more in next 10 months 😉
Abhi But as you suggested special character might kill the advantage, i am thinking about it.
Jason special character might kill the advantage,
I think that is a true case. It is easy to forget special characters while typing. But ok if you can score on Google search. No matter the extension, Google will put your page up on search result.
