We know that Blender can handle 2D animation and has a separate layout within the software. Then there is Synfig Studio which is very neat. My initial hunting failed to identify further simple tools for 2D animation. During the search, I found OpenToonz, which looked different to me. I skipped it at the moment.
Currently, I am looking at an OpenToonz fork called Tahoma2D
Tahoma2D is a 2D and stop motion animation software. It is based on Toonz Studio Ghibli Version, originally developed in Italy by Digital Video, Inc., and customized by Studio Ghibli over many years of production.
Tahoma2D is available for Windows, Linux and Mac
I wanted to see how it looks like and here we go, Tahoma2D v1.2 default user interface
Their official website talks about its feature set
The initial impression from me is that it has a clean, straightforward UI. But sadly, the workflow seems a bit difficult. It is not as simple as taking the time frame to 10 and draw text. Go back to 0, play and expect Text to appear at 10. Tada! nothing happens at 10.
I will try to spend more time on this considering the UI is very appealing and neat.
