I see that forum and other software are growing stronger, feature-rich and getting more resource hungry. In a couple of years, there will be no software that would fit in what we call shared hosting. Docker, Kubernetes and container technologies are gaining more importance these days.
I will not say that shared hosting is weak. It is been powering forums, blogs, websites, landing pages, SPAs for ages now. But sadly the developer atmosphere has changed greatly with respect to shared hosting packages.
Developers are showing more love out of LAMP stack and are embracing container related technologies greatly.
admin so their is a possibility that shared hosting won’t work for forums in future?
@Jason#5946 You already know at least 2 forum software that won't work on a shared hosting, right ?
admin I know Discourse and i don't what is the other one?
Jason I know Discourse
Isn't Discourse enough ? 😉
NodeBB has been a VPS only for almost 10 years now.
Imagine Discourse running on shared host 😆 😅
Is there a possibility that few other forum softwares can also only run in VPS or Dedicated?
Jason phpBB 4.0 and MyBB 1.9 show now indication in that direction.
XF and InvisionPower are currently supporting shared hosts. But they use PHP as the base. So people might get lucky and get support for shared hosting a bit longer on them.
With everyone providing cloud services, paid software might at some point stop selling offline versions and move to Hosted only.
Jason Is there a possibility that few other forum softwares can also only run in VPS or Dedicated?
Possible. But not very immediate.
There are already very ready to use builds available from hosting providers. Almost every top host has a ready to use Discourse install.
The term shared hosting is still alive because of light apps. Even WordPress is being harsh on resources sometimes.
admin I tried WordPress in my shared hosting it lags very badly even using cache addons
Jason it lags very badly even using cache addons
Did you check the server load ? CPU usage ?
Is it ? That is bad.
Are you sure your hosting is good enough ?
I didn't do it, today i might re-check again. I am planning to move my blog from Blogspot to WordPress and i don't know whether it is a good idea to host 2nd site within one shared hosting plan (actually i can host 3 websites in one account)
Cache plugins can do funny things. Be careful when you use them.
My site uses shared hosting, It be a waste if I put it in a VPS since it’s so new and to much money.
Server speed help anyway shared hosting perfomance?
If they oversell a shared hosting, your website might become slow, even unavailable.
