This is a software that enables the translation of spoken language into text. I’ve used Dragon Naturally Speaking years ago but didn’t have much success with it. Have any of you used one? Is there any tips or tricks on how to make it more feasible for the average user?
Windows and Android have built-in speech to text modules.
Cortana is a baked into Windows 10 voice assistant. You can say, open Media Player and it will open it. Say Open Microsoft Word, it will do that.
open Media Player
Open Microsoft Word
There is a voice assistant in almost modern operating systems except Linux.
I'm not into the Cortana or Alexa 'smart' tech. We disable those. The Dragon was independent & was just a software you used. It wasn't ingrained into the computer. People use 'smart' tech to do simple things like Open up a file, Turn on sound, etc. I was talking more along the lines of dictating & transcribing. But I can see how it can get quite confusing with all the newer technology out there changing constantly.
ZandraJoi I'm not into the Cortana or Alexa 'smart' tech.
If you don't like them, there is nothing wrong in skipping them. There is no need to fight battles that does not interest us. It is true that they are very attractive. For me, it is hard not to use them as they are part of my workflow. But it is wise not to use services that have advanced analytics tied to it. Because they tend to learn about you at an AI level. While we can argue that this is completely harmless for normal people like us, some people simply do not trust it.
Don't fear the tech. If you learn enough about it, you will know the pit holes. Because people around you will adopt them no matter what. And when they deal with you, they will have the edge. I am quite in league with you when you say that tech is dangerous. But if you try it, learn and understand it, there is a good chance that we might survive it.
Thank you both for the kind replies 🙂 Tech has gotten so far advanced while humans have become less humanized. That is my problem with it as well. There’s so much hacking, identity theft being done that I don’t trust at all the newer versions. AI I definitely will not trust. Big Brother is already in our lives but I don’t have to make it easy for them lol
I feel like I could benefit a lot from a dedicated speech recognization software for work. I find myself using siri to take a quick notes during meetings at the moment.
