I think it was Linux which first introduced the concept of dark themes. Then a lot gaming and hacking communities adopted it. After Apple introduced it in their product, everyone is after dark themes. Android has it, Windows offers one and so on.
How hard is it for you to make a dark theme variant ?
Abhi Not hard at all. My community over at https://forum.phenomlab.com has both light and dark themes. Dark by default, but any registered user can change this.
phenomlab but any registered user can change this.
Is it ?
phenomlab has both light and dark themes.
Last day a developer showed me switching between dark and light through code. Then we have to build the theme to use it. It was a nice experience . I hope that is how it works everywhere.
Flarum has an in-built dark theme.
admin Is it ?
Yes. When you are in the forums area, click your profile avatar and cycle between Light mode and Dark mode 🙂
admin Flarum has an in-built dark theme.
Yes, but it's not that great and doesn't allow users to choose.
phenomlab and doesn't allow users to choose.
No plugin for that ?
How do you offer that feature ?
phenomlab Yes, but it's not that great and doesn't allow users to choose.
I thought about using it, then I thought " I like light themes " 😎️
Abhi No plugin for that ?
There is a dark theme extension for Flarum 🙂
Nice. I have seen some forums which offer theme selection from footer. Not everyone offers a dark theme, but many variants.
Dark themes are good when it is suitable to niche. Something like an admin forum can be well placed with a light theme than a dark one.
